iMath instructor Brittany Lane has just begun at ITEC this semester but has already exhibited her determined and caring personality out in the field.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher. Education is truly my passion in life. I find that I am at my happiest when I’m working with children and empowering them through education.”
Brittany brings a variety of background to this position, including time spent in the Netherlands observing different schools and their delivery methods. She has spent the past three years in classrooms in the Lansing area as a reading and math tutor and has chosen education as her career path.
“I am pursuing Elementary Education with a specialization in mathematics and a teaching minor in English. I chose to specialize in math because I always enjoyed the challenge and would like to instill that sense of excitement towards STEM in the students I tutor.”
As a senior at Michigan State University, Brittany is excited about her future in the education field. At ITEC, she hopes to gain more experience working with children to prepare for her upcoming time in the classroom. Brittany is currently the lead instructor at the Village Network Center of the Edgewood Village Apartments. This site is piloting delivering our iMath program to a younger group, specifically kindergarten through third-grade students. Having an instructor like Brittany, who has spent time in elementary classrooms leading the program, has proved to be a variable of the success.
“I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the student’s willingness and want to work on their math skills outside of school. The iMath programs provide students a place where they can make learning math a fun activity. I’m so happy to be a part of their learning process and look forward to my time spent with my students each week.”
