Abby Greenslait is an assistant instructor at Wexford Montessori Academy for 2020 Girls.

What made you join ITEC?
“I decided to become a member of ITEC’s team because I think it is a great program and it offers something that I find quite incredible to the youth of Lansing. The young girls that I have the opportunity to work with a few days a week are so smart, funny and eager to learn. I think, if provided with the right tools, these girls will be able to do just about anything they set their minds to! I believe that most of these kids just need a chance and someone to help expose them to the different things that a program like this offers, so they can explore different subjects and possible career paths. 2020 Girls is especially important because the girls have an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment surrounded by only girls, which takes a lot of the pressure and stress off of them that they may experience when working alongside their male counterparts. I am just happy to have the chance to work with such incredible students and can honestly say that I have probably learned as much, if not more from them than they have from me.”

If you could tell your friend something about ITEC, what would it be?
“I would tell my friend to just look into the program and learn more about what it has to offer. Before working with ITEC I was unaware that a program like this was even available, so I think just learning more about it and what it has to offer would be something that I would suggest.”

When you were a kid, what did you want to do when you grew up?
“For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to become a doctor. The world of medicine and the human body have always been something of wonder to me, and to have the ability to combine both of these, while working with patients is something I look forward to. I also had wanted to become a professional singer but as luck would have it I don’t see that happening anytime soon, so I will just have to stick to singing in the car and the shower for now!”

What’s your favorite book? Why?
“At the moment I don’t find myself having much time to do any recreational reading and am usually reading out of a textbook concerning Microbiology or Pharmacology, so I can’t quite say that I have a favorite book as of right now. One of the best books that I have read in the past that I really enjoyed was called ‘Girl on the Train.’ I am really interested in mysterious stories and I thought this book did a good job of capturing my attention and interest.”

If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
“If I could have any super power, I would like to have the ability of time travel. I think this would be a pretty cool power to have just because there are certain events or times that I wish I could revisit and can’t for obvious reasons, but with this power I would be able to. I would like to travel back in time to relive some of my favorite memories and to travel to the future, so I could know what to expect out of certain situations!”
