Scratch Programming: Computer Concepts, Media, and Gaming 5-week intro course for 6th-8th grade students Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. beginning November 17
Dear Parent,
The Black Child and Family Institute (BCFI) is excited to announce that ITEC – the Information Technology Empowerment Center – will offer an after-school class at BCFI for children in grades 6-8 beginning November 17. This is a limited enrollment class (15 students) and pre-registration is required. Students are welcome to arrive early and get help with their homework. The ITEC class will begin promptly at 4:00 in the Magic Johnson Computer Lab (room 104) and end at 5:00. A snack will be provided. Parents need to arrange transportation.
Scratch Programming: Computer Concepts, Media, and Gaming
This five-week introductory course explores computational concepts through novel and playful learning experiences with a new programming language called Scratch. Scratch makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share these creations on the Web. This innovative curriculum was designed by experts in education and technology. ITEC of Lansing is offering this class in collaboration with faculty from Michigan State University.
In this course, students will create their own stories and animations while learning the foundations of computer programming concepts. The result will be projects that are a composition of their own ideas, interests, and passions. Scratch is designed to help young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
