ITEC On the Move!

ITEC On the Move!

About ITEC On the Move!

ITEC provides students throughout the capital region with access to fun, hands-on STEM enrichment programming. Our programs are designed to help our students acquire flexible, transferable technological skills that will allow them to participate in a fast-paced, global economy.

But for us to provide these classes, we have to keep up with technology, too!

Currently, our labs have space for a total of 30 computers. In the spring, we held classes for 21 students. We had to turn children away because not all of our computers work. We never want to turn away a child for this reason again. We have encountered this issue before at other locations, as our partner sites’ computer labs quickly become outdated. There are community centers and libraries throughout the city where we’d like to offer our classes, but can’t because they also lack usable computers or laptops.

That is why we are planning to upgrade all 30 of our computers and expand our laptop cache to 40 new laptops. We hope to do all of this by the end of 2018. To do this, we need to raise $30,000. Funds donated for ITEC On the Move! will be used to purchase new SSD cards and monitors for our computers, as well as laptops and laptop carriers. Our goal is to purchase Chromebooks, HP Probook 450 GP Laptops and Dell Vostro 15 – 1300 Laptops. Excess funds will go towards future technology upgrades and other programmatic needs.

By updating our labs at Foster, ITEC will immediately be able to serve nine more students at every camp or class at Foster, enabling us to serve hundreds more every year.

We will also be taking a proactive approach to keeping the rest of our lab in working order. The new laptops will allow us to provide access to online learning in sections of the city that lack working computer labs. Overall, we will be able to serve a larger section of the public in areas where our programming is needed most, while also assuring that our technology will be up to date for years to come.
